Book Cover Redesign Concept: Some People Need Killing by Patricia Evangelista
This book cover redesign concept project is a reinterpretation of Some People Need Killing, a non-fiction book by Filipina journalist Patricia Evangelista. The book chronicles the harrowing reality of Rodrigo Duterte’s regime and the extrajudicial killings that marked his war on drugs, an era Evangelista documented firsthand as a journalist.
The goal of this redesign is to visually interpret the book’s tone and subject matter, using symbolism, composition, and typography to evoke the fear and violence.
I used photo compositing and typography techniques for this project through Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and made sure that it is a press-ready, full-color layout that includes the front cover, spine, and back cover with all standard book design conventions.
